The incumbent functions as the Coordinator for the Veterans Justice Outreach (VJO) program at the Sheridan VA Health Care System (SVAHCS). The incumbent has primary responsibility for providing and coordinating services for eligible Veterans who are involved in the criminal justice system and responsibility for the administrative and operational needs of the VJO Program. The incumbent provides clinical intervention and case management to assigned Veterans in the program. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Provides interventions independently with Veterans and their families/caregivers who are experiencing a wide range of complicated medical, behavioral health, financial, legal, and psychosocial problems. Provides a range of interventions and treatment modalities which may include individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy. Provides crisis intervention when indicated, including timely assessment of at-risk Veterans in crisis to identify immediate needs, evaluate risk, and initiate safety plan as appropriate. Provides ongoing documentation of Veteran's treatment progress using a psychosocial and behavioral framework. Provides clinical case management and care coordination to facilitate appropriate delivery of health care services, incorporating complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veterans. Establishes and sustains collaborative relationship with Service Lines - providers and nurses, attending Interdisciplinary Treatment Team meetings as appropriate. The incumbent participates in the orientation/teaching of graduate social work students, students of other disciplines, and VHA personnel on the biopsychosocial aspects of justice involvement. Is required to maintain current BLS and/or First Aid certification and remain current on all licensures. Attends Social Work, daily MESS, committees and other meetings, and any other mandatory meetings regularly. May provide clinical supervision to various disciplines and levels of training, including trainees seeking licensure.
